2022 marked the 10th anniversary of Lakeside Festival

After two years of COVID postponements, Saturday 19th March 2022 was a great success!
The local community and visitors from as far afield as Melbourne and South-East Queensland were able to ‘let their hair down’ with great music, delicious food, local wines and boutique beer with the awesome backdrop of Wallis Lake. Within only days of covid restrictions easing for festivals, it was wonderful to see that the festival attracted a strong attendance. With attendees happily  enjoying a covidsafe event, data collected from ticket sales showing 62% local attendance and 38% visitors from other regions. The event even hosted a group from Norway and one from Germany who were holidaying in our slice of paradise. Visitors to the festival stayed in town for an average of 3 nights bringing a significant benefit to the local Forster/Tuncurry business community.

At the April 28th Lakeside Festival Inc. Annual General Meeting the committee recognised and extended a vote of appreciation to the local community, MidCoast Council, sponsors and volunteers for their ongoing support and contribution (financial, time and effort).
The committee are now considering what Lakeside could look like in the future.
Nationwide, volunteer organisations are struggling to recruit and retain team members. Lakeside Festival is unfortunately in the same position, without enough human resources to move forward with planning the next event.

Planning for the 2023 festival has been postponed

The committee will undertake a full review of the methodology used and outcomes delivered in presenting the festival in previous years.
An integral part of this process will be assessing the current trends and infrastructure supporting such events in other regions. Then determine how these may be applied/incorporated into future events for Forster Tuncurry. Feedback from patrons and stakeholders is extremely positive and encouraging for the events future. With an ever increasing following it would be shame to see the event lost, like so many other events in the past.

A call out for volunteers for future festivals

The Lakeside Festival committee extends a welcome to new members who could bring fresh perspectives and expertise to strengthen the event’s resource pool. The team meet once a month and, depending on the role, a volunteer could expect to donate a couple of hours per week of their time, for 6 to 8 months of the year. Then everyone pulls together with great satisfaction to present the festival over set up, event day and pack down.

It’s official, the 8th annual Lakeside Festival will need to be postponed till 2021 for the safety of everyone and in the continued fight against COVID-19. As you can imagine, the Lakeside team are extremely disheartened, as we have been working on this year’s festival since January. We explored all other ways to keep the festival alive in 2020, but it was important for us to host an all-inclusive event, which just isn’t possible under the still current strict health restrictions.

It’s just not #LAKESIDEFESTIVALNSW with limited attendance, no dancing or getting up close and personal with the bands!

We will miss seeing your happy, smiling faces this November but look forward to seeing you next year – save the date 30th October 2021!

A big special THANK YOU to the local community, our volunteers and the awesome local businesses who help us to produce the festival and at the same time, showcase the wonderful area in which we live. Please continue to follow us on Facebook and Instagram @LakesidefestivalNSW for progress and special announcements.

Thank you all for joining us each year and for your patience and understanding. Stay safe everyone and we can’t wait to see you next year!

Much love from the Lakeside Crew.

Lakeside festival has successfully received $10,000 in funding for 2020-21. This funding will assist with the running of the festival and we know tourism is a major contributor to our local economy, and events like the Lakeside Festival are a draw card for interstate visitors to our area, so the NSW Government is proud to support these activities at such a critical time.

It is part of funding provided to 59 events to share in the NSW Government’s $1 million 2020 Regional Event Fund and is in addition to the $50,000 provided to the 2020 Wingham Akoostik Festival announced earlier this year. The Regional Event Fund is part of the NSW Government’s $10 million Tourism Recovery package 2020.

As restrictions are still in place most festivals have been postponed due to Covid. The funding will be carried over to 2021, giving us more time to plan and utilise the funding efficiently.

At this time, Lakeside festival in November 2020 has not been impeded. Being optimistic we have plans now in place with advice provided by NSW Health. The date for the 2020 Festival is Saturday November 7th. However, we recognise the COVID-19 situation is fluid, unpredictable and unprecedented.

If the event cannot be held in November 2020, we will reassess the opportunity of a future suitable date. We have looked at several other venue options to cater for any COVID-19 restrictions and crowd management. Changes may reflect in allowed numbers of attendees, event hours, food vendor regulations and any general hygiene / social distancing restrictions. We will work within whatever rules advised by Government Authorities. John Wright Park is available at multiple dates across the calendar year and artists have expressed flexibility to change to a future date if required.

Following the guidelines and regulations of NSW Health is our priority, being essential for the survival of our community, and of course for the better health of Australia and the world population. We do have the flexibility to move the event forward to a future date should that need arise.

SO PLEASE SAVE THE DATE 7/11/2020 + Follow us on Facebook for more updates.

It was a tense week for everyone in the areas of these bush fires around Darawank, Tuncurry, Minimbah and Crowdy Head. The fight is yet to be over as they are still battling for control while the weather spreads them further. These volunteers who are risking their lives to fight these horrific fires. Well done! We couldn’t be more grateful and we all wish to say thank you!
